experienced piano, singing
& music teacher
I teach adults, providing 121 coaching sessions in London (Hammersmith / Fulham SW6) or online via Google Meet.
I teach adults only in my small, very well-equipped recording studio, with great sound, a Roland Fantom 8 workstation keyboard and an HP605 digital piano, a very powerful silent Digital Audio Workstation running Cubase, Reaper, Pianoteq and Dorico and a host of other music software. I can offer piano, singing, composition and other music lessons via Google Meet or in person.
I don't offer trial lessons, but a short initial chat or email exchange before the first lesson is recommended. If you would like to discuss learning with me, please get in touch.
Music is a language — a way of expressing, feeling, and communicating
My teaching grows from this truth. Whether you are beginning your musical journey, returning after a long break, or working at a professional level, I can help you release your fears to develop a genuinely natural, confident relationship with music.
My approach suits all kinds of music
My approach is non‑denominational, genre‑wise. The underlying principles of musical fluency — clarity of inner awareness of rhythmic and tonal elements and expressive intention — apply equally to classical, jazz, pop, and all styles of improvised music. Whatever genre(s) a student aims to play or sing, the goal is always the same: to understand how music works from the inside out, so that making music is a fluent, expressive, and enjoyable experience.
Musical Fluency is acquired through Zen-like focus on a simple model whilst letting go of results
The central part of my teaching is a simple, elegant model of rhythm and tonality. It cuts through the dense complexity that often surrounds technique and theory, giving students a clear framework they can rely on in any musical context. This model helps people focus on what truly matters in the moment, making music feel more intuitive, grounded, and meaningful.
One model but delivered in different ways
People come to me with many different backgrounds and motivations. Some want a gentle, unpressured way to develop their keyboard and vocal musicianship. Others are drawn more to the reflective, meditative qualities of sound. And many are experienced musicians seeking greater expressive freedom or a way through long‑standing blockages. Although these needs are different, the underlying principles are the same: simplicity, clarity, attention, and a direct connection to musical meaning.
Develop and grow your skills at your own pace
Over time, students develop a grounded sense of rhythm and tonality, a more relaxed technique, and a deeper understanding of musical structure. They begin to play and sing with greater confidence, freedom, and expressive intention — whatever their level, background, or preferred style of learning.
So even though I always use the same model of musical language, I find it helpful to offer my teaching via three quite distinct pathways:
MusicallyFluent — for serious or professional musicians seeking fluency and freedom
PlayPianoFluently or SingFluently— for beginners or returning players who want a simple, enjoyable approach
Tone & Groove — for those drawn to a more embodied, reflective, or meditative approach
